About
I am employed with The Wayne County Airport Authority and a member in good standing with AFSCME Local 1690.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give you my history with AFSCME. I was not born with a, “Silver Spoon” in my mouth, and I did not come from a wealthy family. Everything I have achieved in my life, has come with hard work, self-discipline, and dedication.
I began my journey with AFSCME beginning with Wayne County Road Division as a seasonal employee in construction.
While as a seasonal employee, I was afforded the opportunity to earn my CDL Class A endorsement (Commercial Driver’s License) to increase my chances for a full-time employment opportunity. I achieved my CDL Class A endorsement by June of 1995
Recieved an offer for a full time position with the Field Maintenance Department at The Wayne County Metro Airport in late June, with my experience with Loading aircraft, the airport position was the most intriguing since l like working around aircraft.
I started my new position as an Airport Maintenance Worker July of 1995 and joined AFSCME Local 101. I decided to become more involved as a member with Local 101 by accepting the Safety Officer Position at the Airport. I immediately researched MIOSHA information and learned about their Grant Program that would pay for the majority of the Classes and I started applying. I was approved for every grant I applied for and took classes around my Work Schedule or used personal time to attend classes. I paid for most of the classes not covered by the grant and Local 101 paid for the remaining classes. I was the 32nd person to achieve Level 1 in Both General Industry and Construction. See Photo from the Michigan Safety Conference held in Lansing, Michigan, and Certificates of individual required classes.
I have also held the following offices as a AFSCME Member.
President, Vice President, Committee Person, and Steward.
